The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella has revealed in a newly-published report that Sony’s PS5 ranked as the best-selling console in dollar sales for 2022, although in terms of hardware sales, the Nintendo Switch came out on top.
The analyst revealed the Sony’s latest home console performed strongly in Q4 2022, thanks largely to an increase in supply for PS5. Dollar sales for the PS5 were nearly doubled in Q4 2022 compared to the same period last year, with Sony’s platform seeing out the quarter as the leading hardware in both unit and dollar sales.
Elsewhere, Piscatella revealed that games including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok, LEGO Star Wars The Skywalker Saga and Pokemon Scarlet/Violet were among year’s best performers.
PlayStation boss Jim Ryan proclaimed recently that the PS5 shortage was now a thing of the past, an indeed it seems to have paid off, as PS5 has performed solidly the last few months. Not only has the console shipped 32 million units worldwide, but sales were up 202% last month over January 2022.
