The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella has revealed that the PS5 came out on top as January 2022’s best-selling console.
Sony’s latest home console triumphed last month in both units and dollars, with the Xbox Series X/S coming in second place.
According to Piscatella, video game hardware dollar sales grew by 22% year-on-year, topping $390 million. Furthermore, this is the highest total for the month of January since 2009, when sales reached $447 million.
In other Sony-relate news, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales continued to perform well last month, ranking as the sixth best-selling game of the month. Furthermore, it’s third only to Marvel’s Spider-Man and God of War (2018) in lifetime dollar sales for a Sony-published title since 1995.
The PS5 was released in November 2020 in major regions including the US, UK, and Europe, but is still not readily available worldwide due to ongoing shortages of manufacturing components.
