Speaking in a new Japanese interview this week, Sony’s Hideaki Nishino has addressed the lack of a PS5 web browser, saying the format holder has doubts such a thing is necessary for a home console nowadays.

Both the PS3 and PS4 feature web browsers, but PS5 has ditched the feature. In the age of smartphones and tablets, you could argue that not many people would want to browse the web on a console.
Currently, we don’t intend to include a web browser in PS5. We have doubts about whether a web browser is necessary for a game console as an app, so we’ll have to wait and see.
