The PSN down detector shows an influx of reports from users unable to access some online services, including signing in and the PlayStation Store. Some users are reporting PS4 error code: WC-40383-8, which results in a server error.

As far as we’re aware no scheduled maintenance has been planned by Sony, and the support team have been quick to acknowledge the issue on Twitter.

The problems with Sony’s network may not be widespread as some users are still reporting that they can access the PSN Store, even though it appears to be running more slowly than usual.

The current PlayStation Network issues arrive at a particular bad time as thousands of players download the PS4 update 4.0, which launched today.

The new patch adds PS4 HDR support, and numerous other features, including the ability to create folders.

The downtime also coincides with the launch of the FIFA 17 demo. Currently, we’re waiting to find out if gaming is also affected, but we believe that you should be access this service right now if you managed to download it in time!

The next scheduled maintenance for the PSN is planned for Septembe 19, taking place between the hours of 05:30 and 06.30.

The PSN network issues arrive in the lead up to the PlayStation Plus price increase.Sony recently revealed that yearly membership will increase to $59.99, while the three month plan will rise to $24.99.

Stay tuned for PS4 status updates.
