PSN hack woes as PlayStation social media compromised

Sony’s PlayStation social media accounts were recently compromised by notorious hacking group OurMine over the weekend, sparking new fears of a PSN hack.

The Saudi Arabian group claimed responsibility for the cyberattack, which targeted both the PlayStation Twitter and PlayStation Facebook accounts.

After first claiming responsibility for the hack, OurMine followed up with a post, “PlayStation, contact us we got PlayStation Network database leaked!” The hackers then attempted to get the ‘PlayStationLeaks’ hashtag trending across Twitter and Facebook.

The tweets were quickly deleted, with their last message reading:  “No, we aren’t going to share it, we are a security group if you work at PlayStation then please go to our website.”

Right now there’s no confirmation that OurMine has successfully hacked PSN, although their pedigree (if you can call it that) unfortunately speaks for itself. OurMine has in the past managed to hack a number of high-profile accounts in the past, including Mark Zuckerberg (Facebook), Sundar Pichai (Google), and Brendan Iribe (Oculus).

Sony has fallen prey to a number of hacking attempts in the past, the most notorious of which being the April 2011 PSN hack, which compromised the accounts of over 70,000 users.
