PSN maintenance to allow for increased handheld connectivity

It looks as if the scheduled PlayStation Network downtime – the bane of PSN users all across the globe – will actually look to increase the amount of portable gaming devices you can register to your Sony Entertainment Network (SEN) account.

As it stands, players can register up to two portable gaming devices on their account, but after today’s maintenance that figure’s set to rise to three. PlayStation Community Manager Tempest_ took to the official forums to issue a statement regarding what the downtime will mean to PlayStation users:

‘’Hi everyone,

We wanted to take a moment to let everyone know that there is a planned network maintenance for PlayStation platforms scheduled for Monday, December 9th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM Pacific Time (12 noon to 5:00 PM Eastern). To clarify, this is currently scheduled to be a 5 hour maintenance.

This maintenance will increase the number of devices that can be activated by an account as a portable gaming device. This means that you can now activate up to three portable gaming devices (PSP (PlayStation Portable) and PlayStation Vita) on your SEN account. This new portable gaming device allotment is in addition to the other network improvements being implemented during this downtime.

If you’ve signed onto the network over the past few days, you’ll still be able to play online and access apps during this period, but you may receive a maintenance notification when attempting to access the PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home and Account Management as these services will be unavailable. Be sure to sign in now if you wish to access the network during this maintenance window.

Thanks for your patience during this maintenance timeframe, and we apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.’’

This news will no doubt be music to the ears of users who have multiple devices that they wish to activate on their accounts and get access to PSN content; and after today’s maintenance they’ll be able to do just that.
