PSN offline as Destiny beta launches, Bungie having issues too

UPDATE 8pm BST – Sony updates PSN status from offline to “intermittently available.” Tweets message – "The PlayStation Network is currently experiencing high volume and users may experience issues when connecting to the service. We will update you with any changes that may occur in regards to this issue. Thank you for your patience."

UPDATE 7pm BST – Bungie is back online so codes can be redeemend

The PlayStation Network has gone down at the worst possible time, just as Bungie’s Destiny beta phase has launched. The PSN has been inaccesible for the last hour or so, which coincides with the issues we’ve been experiencing with Bungie.net’s code redemption page. Bungie’s code portal is down for ‘maintenance’, meaning some users cannot redeem their codes.

On Bungie.net, users are greeted with the message “Bungie.net needs a little break. We’re pampering it with some much deserved maintenance,” while those who already have codes and have tried connecting to PSN are faced with the dreaded words “Unable to connect to PSN.”

We’ll update you as soon as we know anything. Great timing, eh? It makes us wonder why Bungie didn’t allow users to pre-load the beta.
