PSN is Sony’s dedicated online service that launched alongside the PS3 back in November 2006. Since then, it has grown exponentially, with Sony introducing PS Plus, a subscribed-based service offering members free games and other content for a monthly/yearly fee, back in 2010 although at the time online gaming remained free to PS3 users.
Beginning with PS4 however, Sony changed things up and required gamers to sign-up to PS Plus in order to participate in online gaming. Despite this, the rewards are more than worth the price of admission, with free games released on a monthly basis spanning PS4, PS3 and PS Vita formats.
