Quantic Dream got PS4 dev kits ‘very early’

The vice president of Quantic Dream has confirmed the studio began pre-production on its PlayStation 4 debut title in mid-2012.

Guillamue de Fondaumiere revealed during a chinwag with Eurogamer that the Heavy Rain and Beyond developer was among the first companies to receive PS4 dev kits.

“We received PS4 development kits – at the beginning its specs then it becomes early kits – very early on,” he said. “We were among the first studios in the world to receive those kits.”

"Technology has been going on for quite a while now," he added. "We’ve started to work on the pre-production of that new game since the middle of last year."

Development of the game is going "great", he added. So when does full production begin? "That’s too early for me to tell. It’s a very ambitious project, so it’s going to start when it’s ready."

Few details on the French developer’s PS4 project have been revealed. The company put in an appearance at the console’s reveal event in February, where David Cage showcased some eyeball-popping facial tech running on a new game engine.

Clues to the identity of the new game have emerged in the shape of the domain singularityPS4.com. This ties in with previous registrations that Quantic Dream has made in the past, namely heavyrainps3.com and beyondps3.com.

Quantic Dream is currently developing its next PS3-exclusive, Beyond: Two Souls, which is scheduled for release in October.
