Ratchet fails to break 100k sales mark

There are many ways to measure success. One must look at all factors in the given situation and then take a verdict from there. Given particular circumstances, success can either be achieved or not achieved. In this case, Insomniac games is taking the same approach.

Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is a much-needed PlayStation 3 exclusive that couldn’t have come at a better time. Yet, despite its hype, the title failed to match up to initial sales forecasts.

The PS3 exclusive came in with 74,500 sales in its first two weeks on the market, shy of the projected 100,000-unit goal for the first three weeks. Despite missing the initial goal, Sony continues to be grateful of the success thus far.

"SCEA is very happy with the initial sales numbers of Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction," a Sony Computer Entertainment America representative commented.

"In a crowded market of mature content, Ratchet is a fun, sophisticated alternative that truly showcases the power of the PS3. Ratchet is the perfect gift for PlayStation fans of all ages and we expect sales to continue to remain strong."

There are two things that must be noted. R&C Future in its first two weeks sold more than the PS2 multiplayer driven, Ratchet & Clank Deadlocked sold (55,300 units) in its fifth month. The second thing to point out is that the PS3 is still establishing itself, trying to push more hardware units into consumer’s homes. So given the current situation for the PS3, selling 74,500 units in the first two weeks isn’t bad.

The holiday shopping season is about to commence so there is plenty room for more success, which is just around the corner.
