Mark Rein, VP of Epic Games, has dashed hopes of split screen multiplayer coming to the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3.
He was speaking to VideoGamer.com at Midway’s Gamers Day last week when he broke the news:
"I don’t think so, because this is what’s in this (the Xbox 360 version) game. I think it would be a big job to go back and retrofit that game for split-screen. I just don’t think we have the resources to do that unfortunately."
When UT3 ships for Xbox 360 later this year it will include split screen online multiplayer across all modes except for ranked games (to prevent cheating). Although this is likely to be a popular feature, Rein believes PS3 owners have something just as juicy:
"They’ve got mods! They’ve got their thing. They’ve got easily exchangeable user created mods. Whether this game gets that or not, it won’t have it at ship. They’ve got they’re thing and they should be happy. They’ve got a great thing going."
So perhaps the argument is about what you value more: mod support or split screen multiplayer. Which is your pick? Leave a comment below…
