The latest issue of Famitsu magazine features a sprawling, 2-page advertisement for Capcom’s upcoming Survival Horror sequel, Resident Evil 5 – and with it, some rather upsetting news for long time fans of the series.
Kneeing down in front of a gravestone in the middle of a cemetery under grim skies, hulky hero Chris Redfield pays his last respects to fellow BSAA comrade and former Resident Evil heroine, Jill Valentine. Quite a shocker, we’ll think you’ll agree.
Although Valentine’s death was previously hinted at the culmination of a new RE5 trailer at October’s Tokyo Game Show, the footage was filmed off screen and never ‘officially’ released, so chances are alot you missed out on the news.
Valentine previously appeared as a playable character in Resident Evil and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, before joining Redfield and the remaining S.T.A.R.S in their quest to bring down the pesky Umbrella Corporation following the destruction of Raccoon City ten years ago. She later turned up in the Wii exclusive shooter, Umbrella Chronicles, which depicted the fall of the Mega Corporation during a scenario set in February 2003.
Quite frankly, we can’t buy the fact Capcom would kill off such an iconic character without at the very least elaborating on her fate to some extent – Still, we’ll find out soon enough come March.
