Capcom CFO Kazuhiko Abe has confirmed that horror sequel Resident Evil 5 has sold a whopping five million copies worldwide since its launch in March 2009.
Abe said at the Reuters Global Technology Summit in Tokyo last week that combined sales of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game reached 4.4 million by March 31, with a further 570,000 copies shifted last month.
While this brings the total to 4.97 million units, the horror title is believed to have sold enough this month to push its lifetime sales margin past the five million barrier. At this rate, the game looks set to surpass Resident Evil 2 as the biggest selling title in the franchise to date.
