Capcom’s revealed that it isn’t looking to any particular Resident Evil title from yesterday when seeking inspiration for the upcoming sixth instalment in the long-running horror franchise.
Chatting with IGN, Resident Evil 6 producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said that Capcom maintains great respect for the series’ past endeavours, though is aiming to top all previous games with the next instalment.
“We have a ton of respect for the past RE games. The ways in which they were each able to provide unique experiences is incredibly important,” he said.
“With RE6 we hope to create an even greater game than the previous entries in the series. That being said, we are not focusing on any previous title in particular.
“What we can say though, is that we do consider the things we have learned from previous RE games to be really beneficial as we make this new title.”
Hirabayashi went on to say that main heroes Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield were chosen due to the “focus on the story,” though confirmed there are still a bunch of characters still yet to be announced.
RE6 was unveiled a few weeks back and features a hybrid of gameplay styles, with Kennedy tackling a zombie outbreak in the U.S. while Redfield handles a biohazard threat in China.
The former campaign appears to align more with the classic, slower-paced horror vibe of old titles, while the latter takes on a more action-oriented approach ala RE4/RE5.
Resident Evil 6 is due out on November 20, 2012 for PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360.
