Director Paul W.S. Anderson has confirmed that he is working on a sixth installment in the Resident Evil movie franchise.
Anderson revealed at the Beijing International Film Festival (via CCTV) that the action-horror romp will be filmed in 3D, and that Li Bingbing will also reprise her role as Ada Wong in the flick.
“I have to go home tomorrow for writing Resident Evil. That’s what i’m going to do,” he said. “As you know, Bingbing is in the last movie and she will be there again.”
Sony/Screen Gems previously targeted a September 2014 release date for the new Resident Evil film, although that was back when we assumed filming would be completed in time. Right now, work has yet to even commence, so presumably the project won’t see the light of day until 2015.
Not much is known about the film, though Tracking Board suggests it will be titled Resident Evil: Rising. The plot will allegedly see Alice and her band of freedom fighters attempting to foil the Red Queen, who has brought humanity to its knees, as depicted at the climax of Resident Evil Retribution.
The movie is also likely to be Milla Jovovich’s last appearance in the franchise, though this has yet to be made official.
