While the game initially sold well, it didn’t look like it was going to surpass its predecessor or Resident Evil 5 in terms of life-to-date sales, as its performance slowed somewhat as the months rolled on. However, the game has evidently performed strongly in subsequent years.
Importantly, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the first entry in the series to reach 10 million copies shipped without factoring in any remasters/ports.
Capcom succeeded with these promotions, achieving long-running sales in excess of one million units in each fiscal year since the release of Resident Evil 7: biohazard, leading the game to be the first in the series to break 10 million cumulative worldwide shipments.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard was released in January 2017 for PS4, PC, and Xbox One, and took the series back to its survival horror roots after years of overblown, bombastic action. It’s also noteworthy for adding a first-person perspective, the first for a mainline Resident Evil game.
