Resident Evil 7 gameplay looks terrifying as Jack Baker stalks you through a mansion

New footage of Resident Evil 7: biohazard has surfaced online following a preview event at Capcom Japan, offering an extensive glimpse at the game’s spooky plantation mansion and a particularly brutal scrap with Jack Baker.

The video showcases protagonist Ethan creeping around the Baker’s mansion while mixing it up with various members of the Texas Chainsaw-inspired southerners, as well as the mysterious new enemies known only as ‘The Molded.’ We’re also treated to a few classic Resi puzzles, although much of the plot remains tightly under wraps.

Resident Evil 7 gameplay – check out the latest footage

Resident Evil 7 is scheduled for release on January 24, 2017 for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One. Those of you who purchase the game on Sony’s console will be able to enjoy Resi 7 from start to finish using PlayStation VR, a feature that will remain a PSVR-exclusive for a year. There’s also a Collector’s Edition of the game available in both North America and Europe if you fancy splashing out on the survival horror sequel.

Set four years after the events of Resident Evil 6, this latest installment in the venerated horror franchise sees players taking control of newcomer Ethan Winters, as he searches a mansion and its surrounding grounds in the bayous of Louisiana, U.S., for his missing wife, Mia. However, he soon finds that the area is home to the cannibalistic and insane Baker family, who stalk Ethan throughout his journey.

Resi 7 looks set to recall the series’ survival horror roots as it places greater emphasis on explorations, item management, and puzzle solving, as opposed to the last few Resi games, which had players mowing down legions of zombies with copious amounts of ammunition. The game also switches things up by placing the action in a first-person perspective; a first for a mainline Resident Evil title.

If you haven’t already done so, be sure to check out the playable Resident Evil 7 demo on the PlayStation Store, and stay tuned for more details on the teaser—Capcom’s expected to update the demo again this month.
