Capcom’s Hajime Horiuchi has suggested that the upcoming Resident Evil 7: biohazard will be the most difficult entry in its flagship survival horror franchise to date.
Speaking during an interview with the Official Xbox Magazine (via Powerupgaming), Horiuchi-san said that emphasising fear was the developer’s main priority, and that even one-on-one encounters must feel intimidating to the player.
“The difficulty being a little higher than in previous titles is definitely intentional,” he said. “We wanted to focus more on the aspect of fear. We worried that if the game’s too easy and these enemy encounters aren’t too big of a deal then players aren’t going to feel that tension, not going to feel that anxiety. We wanted to make sure that even if you’re pitted up in a one versus one situation, that one enemy is capable of killing you.”
Resident Evil 7 release date is less than three weeks away
Resident Evil 7 is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on January 24, 2017. The game will be fully playable from start to finish with PlayStation VR, a feature that will remain exclusive to Sony’s console for approximately 12 months. Resi 7 will also be supported by a number of post-launch content throughout the year, which forms the game’s Season Pass. Further details on the nature of the DLC have yet to be confirmed by Capcom.
