Resident Evil HD review round-up: survival horror REborn

Resident Evil HD has shuffled its way onto PlayStation Network and Xbox LIVE this week, revamping the original GameCube 2002 with up-to-date controls, 1080p visuals, and lush widescreen support. It’s a significant release, least of all as it’s the first time the game has been available to PlayStation and Xbox gamers in 13 years. More important, however, is the fact it represents what the Resident Evil series has failed to offer in the past few years: a genuine survival horror experience.

Of course, the game is pretty old nowadays, and many of its mechanics adhere to the original Resident Evil, which is nearly 20 years old. Do pre-rendered backgrounds, tank controls, and typewriter save points have a place in today’s gaming market? The critics have spoken, so it’s time to find out.

See below for our Resident Evil review round-up, and check out our own verdict here.
