Resident Evil movie details: Watch the Resident Evil Vendetta trailer

The Resident Evil movie franchise will see the launch of two all-new films in 2017, with Paul W.S. Anderson’s Resident Evil: The Final Chapter hitting cinemas in January and the CG film Resident Evil: Vendetta arriving at some point after.

At the Tokyo Game Show this past week, Capcom provided some new details on Vendetta, which is set to feature three characters from the videogames: Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Rebecca Chambers. While plot details are being kept under wraps at present, it appears the movie will be set in a mansion similar to the Spencer Estate for at least some portion of the action.

Resident Evil has seen two CG films released to date, namely Resident Evil: Degeneration and Resident Evil: Damnation, both of which starred Kennedy. The live-action series kicked off in 2002 with Resident Evil, and was followed by Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), and Resident Evil: Retribution (2012).

Despite Anderson’s movies deviating considerably from the source material, they have proven a box office success, generating nearly $1 billion worldwide and ranking as the biggest videogame – movie adaptations to date.
