Koshi Nakanishi, the director behind Resident Evil Requiem, has touched base on an interesting fan theory on the identity of the Hag-like feature that stalks protagonist Grace Ashcroft during the early previews of the game.
In case you missed our recent preview, I picked up on the fact the creature uses voice effects directly taken from Lisa Trevor, who was featured in the remake of Resident Evil from 2002. At the time I speculated that this was simply a placeholder or may hold more significance — but speaking with Denfaminicogamer, Nakanishi-san has confirmed the creature is not Lisa.

Evidently, the fact Lisa’s voice effects were used for the creature spread across the web enough for the director to address the topic. The answer? It’s merely a placeholder audio.
Actually, the current version of the creature’s voice isn’t the final version yet. And to be completely honest, we’re using Lisa’s voice as a base for temporary audio,” he admitted. He even joked, “Feel free to use this as your article headline: ‘It Actually Wasn’t Lisa.’
For those who are perhaps new to the series or didn’t play REmake, Lisa Trevor was a victim of Umbrella’s experiments going back decades before the events of the Mansion Incident. She was the daughter of George Trevor, the architect behind the mansion, and after her parents were killed she was used by Umbrella scientists as a test subject for all manner of ghastly experiments, turning her into a near-invulnerable monster.
Resident Evil Requiem is due out on February 27, 2026 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S.
