Capcom News PS5 Resident Evil 9 Resident Evil Requiem Resident Evil Requiem Multiplayer Concept

Resident Evil Requiem Still Has Some Elements From Its Original Multiplayer Concept, Says Producer

Masato Kumazawa, the producer on Resident Evil Requiem, has revealed during an interview with Press Start Australia that the upcoming survival horror title still has a few remnants of its original concept as an online multiplayer title.

The multiplayer concept would have been more action-oriented, and while Kumazawa-san said it was fun to play he admitted it simply wasn’t scary.

There are some remaining elements, but we can’t disclose what it is and how it is. Looking at the game when it was multiplayer, the horror part was very mild. However, in that build, we made a game that was fun to play. But we looked deeply into this game and wondered if a fan of the franchise would really like this, so we thought they would probably wouldn’t enjoy it as much. That’s the reason we made it back into single player. But because it was fun, we added elements from that build to the final game to ensure it was fun.

Resident Evil Requiem takes place around 30 years since the destruction of Raccoon City, as depicted in Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Players control Grace Ashcroft, the daughter of Alyssa Ashcroft from Resident Evil Outbreak, as she investigates a series of grisly murders in the same location that her mother was killed some years prior. The ruins of Raccoon City are also going to feature in the game, and it has been heavily rumoured the second playable character will be returning her Leon S. Kennedy.

Capcom will publish Resident Evil Requiem for PS5, PC, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S on February 27, 2026.
