Resident Evil: Revelations 2 Producer Michiteru Okabe has revealed that the upcoming survival horror title will delve deeper into the characters’ backgrounds, specifically Moira Burton, daughter of the fan-favorite, Barry Burton.
Speaking with Game Informer, Okabe-san let slip that Revelations 2 is a game that has been made with long-time fans in mind, and even hinted that Barry himself may finally become a playable character (the non-canon Resident Evil Gaiden and Resident Evil 5: The Mercenaries Reunion notwithstanding).
Most interestingly, however, is the fact that Burton’s daughter refuses to utilize firearms, which ties in with a family tragedy going back years. Fans will recall that Barry was a gun aficionado and member of the N.R.A, and also had a second daugher, Polly.
“We know that the fans that played the original Resident Evil know who is Moira is," Okabe said. "We know fans like Barry and his family."
On Moira’s tragedy, Okabe-san said it would be “huge” and “important” part of her story. "If you’re into that character-based personal drama, there’s going to be plenty of that here," he promised.
Moira was first mentioned in the original Resident Evil game alongside her sister, where players were able to obtain a family picture of Barry with his two daughters, depending on your actions.
Barry was blackmailed by the traitorous Captain Albert Wesker during the events of the game to help him destroy evidence of Umbrella’s involvement in the Mansion Incident, with the former S.T.A.R.S. leader threatening Burton’s family should he not comply.
Barry of course survived the events of the game, and later joined an anti-Umbrella unit alongside fellow S.T.A.R.S. survivors, Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine. His family were moved to Canada for safety.
Resident Evil: Revelations 2 is scheduled for release in early 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360.
