Sony Pictures Entertainment has unleashed the official debut trailer for Resident Evil: The Final Chapter.
Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, The Final Chapter is (shock, horror) the last instalment in the action-horror franchise based on Capcom’s multi-million selling videogame series, and sees Milla Jovovich reprising her role as the undead-slaying heroine, Alice.
The film picks up following the events of RE: Retribution, where humanity is making a last stand against the invading zombie hordes. However, having been betrayed by Albert Wesker, Alice finds herself heading back to where it all began: The Hive, underneath the streets of the ruins of Raccoon City.
Ali Larter also returns as Claire Redfield, although it appears much of the previous cast, including Wentworth Miller and Johaan Urb, won’t be returning for the sequel.
The Resident Evil movies have generated nearly $1 billion at the box office, making them by far the most commercially successful video game – film adaptations on the market. Critical reception hasn’t been so kind, however.
Resident Evil hit cinemas back in 2002 and spawned the sequels Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004), Resident Evil: Extinction (2007), Resident Evil: Afterlife (2010), and Resident Evil: Retribution (2012).
While the plot deviates considerably from the source material, the films have incorporated a number of characters from the Resident Evil games, such as Ada Wong, Barry Burton, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, and Leon S. Kennedy.
