Sony Pictures has announced that Resident Evil: Vendetta, the next installment in the CGI series based on Capcom’s multimillion-selling horror franchise, is coming to cinemas across North America this summer.
Vendetta is a canonical entry in the on-going films series that connects directly to the videogames, and features series veterans Chris Redfield, Leon S. Kennedy, and Rebecca Chambers as they attempt to prevent a new virus from being unleashed in New York, USA. The film takes place an undisclosed amount of time following the events of 2012’s Resident Evil 6.
This is the third CG film based on the Resident Evil franchise, following on from Resident Evil Degeneration and Resident Evil Damnation, all of which have featured Leon in a starring role alongside the likes of Claire Redfield and Ada Wong.
Capcom recently announced that the live-action film series, which came to an end with Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, has grossed over $1 billion worldwide. In addition, Resident Evil 7 has now shipped three million copies globally across PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.
