In Bungie’s weekly update, the Destiny developer has confirmed that the server switch on for its highly-anticipated first-person shooter will take place on September 9 and will be rolled out across the world according to individual time zones.
On the blog, Bungie community manager Bungie also speaks briefly of its general lack of confidence when it comes to retailers and their familiar habit of breaking street dates, though confirms that getting the game early will make no difference to when you can actually play Destiny.
Deej writes: “When it is September 9th somewhere in the world, and you have access to your very own version of Destiny, it will be time for you to create a character that will keep you company for a good, long time. Retailers will stick to time-zones. Our servers won’t know the difference. Retailers will break street date. Our servers won’t.”
Though Destiny has already gone gold, the developers are testing the launch version this weekend behind closed-doors.
“Destiny is done, in some respects. Even now, so close to the end, it still feels like we’re just getting started,” writes Deej.
Destiny launches on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One on September 9, 2014.
