Return to Monkey Island is launching on November 8, 2022 for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, Devolver Digital and Terrible Toybox have announced.
Following on from the classic adventure games The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChunk’s Revenge, Return to Monkey Island picks up many years after Guybrush Threepwood locked horns with his nemesis LeChuck. Having never found the Secret of Monkey Island, Guybrush finds himself drifting and unfulfilled, while Elaine Marley, his true love, turns her attention away from governing.
Return to Monkey Island is marries the classic point-and-click shenanigans of Ron Gilbert’s much-loved franchise to modern day, with players solving puzzles and exploring islands using context-sensitive interactions, dialog trees and a user-friendly inventory system.
The exciting conclusion to the Monkey Island series marks the return of the iconic series’ creator Ron Gilbert, joined by game co-writer Dave Grossman, art director Rex Crowle (Knights & Bikes, Tearaway), and composers Peter McConnell, Michael Land, and Clint Bajakian (Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge).
