Return To Silent Hill Is A ‘Faithful Adaptation’ Of Silent Hill 2, Teams With Cineverse For US Theatrical Release

Christophe Gans’ Return to Silent Hill is set to receive a theatrical release in the US, with Cineverse having acquired distribution rights to the movie.

Yolanda Macias, Chief Content Offer at Cineverse, and Executive Direct of Acquisitions Brandon Hill, commented:

As we continue to build our slate of theatrical releases we couldn’t be more thrilled to add the next release from a billion dollar, multi-platform franchise with a global box office of $156 million to date across the first two films.

I am delighted to partner with Cineverse, which has shown a genuine understanding of fanship. ‘Return to Silent Hill’ is an adaptation created out of deep respect for a true masterpiece of a game, Konami’s iconic ‘Silent Hill 2.’ I hope fans will enjoy and be fulfilled with the experience this new film has to offer.

Return to Silent Hill sees James Sunderland (Jeremy Irvine) receiving a letter from his soulmate, Mary, calling him to the town of Silent Hill. Upon arriving, he finds that an unknown and malevolent force has changed the once-peaceful town, with its streets inhabited by grotesque creature. As James doubts his own mental stability, he tries to comprehend reality while attempting to resume Mary at all costs.

Gans previously worked on the first Silent Hill movie from 2006, which was a loose adaptation of Silent Hill (1999). The sequel, Silent Hill Revelation, was based around Silent Hill 3 but Gans didn’t return; instead, the film was directed by M.J. Bassett.

A release date for Return to Silent Hill has yet to be announced, but it is expected to arrive in cinemas at some point this year.
