Sony Interactive Entertainment has started rolling out its revised PS5 Digital Edition across European regions, and comparison videos reveal that the new version of the console is fully matte — removing the glossy finish of its predecessor.
In addition to this slightly new look, the PS5 Digital Edition has reduced storage capacity; it features 825GB instead of the original console’s 1TB. A comparison video posted by Austin Evans details the new matte finish, replacing glossy look seen in previous models.
“I actually like that,” commented Evans. “Looking at them side by side, I like the fact that it’s matte instead of glossy. It looks a little cheaper [but] gloss is gross, and it just gets fricking dirty all over the place, and scratched up.”

In addition to the aesthetic changes to the new PS5 Digital Edition, this new model weighs about 120 grams lighter than its previous iteration, which Evans speculates may have been made possible by a redesigned sink structure made of thiner metal. However, despite the positive changes to the console detailed above, Evans’ overall opinion is largely negative due to the fact Sony is continuing to raise the price of the PS5 while offering reduced storage capacity.
