Anyone over a certain age who remembers the early Ridge Racer days has to be excited about the return of the arcade racing series. It’s going to be really interesting to see if the new Ridge Racer experience — which is said to fall more in line with popular racing games like Need for Speed or Burnout than trying to recapture the traditional arcade thrills of the series — will attract as dedicated a cult-following as the original games.
Indeed, this new trailer from Namco Bandai, though extremely short, shows some gameplay footage of Ridge Racer Unbounded that showcases the new, more aggressive gameplay, which is just as much about destroying others vehicles as it is driving your own. In the official press release, Namco Bandai hints at the devastation that can be caused on the tracks, writing "You think you’ve seen crashes? You’ve seen nothing." The publisher also refers to vehicles as "high-octane wrecking balls."
Judging from the trailer, it looks as though drifting will be included, too.
A release date for Ridge Racer Unbounded has yet to be announced.
