Rock Band Unplugged announced for PSP

In case you didn’t know, Sony is currently in the process of holding a Destination PlayStation event which has yielded several big announcements for the company’s portable handheld. Surprisingly enough, Rock Band will be making an exclusive appearance on a handheld device in the form of Rock Band Unplugged.

Unplugged will offer much of what the console version does in terms of downloads, as owners can log into the PlayStation Store to purchase and download music for their PlayStation Portable. Whether the music will be compatible with both the PS3 and PSP has yet to be announced, but we wouldn’t be surprised to find out that that’s how it’ll work out.

The gameplay mechanics are simple and should remind people of games like DJ Max Portable. The left, up, triangle and circle buttons are utilized for the instrument keys, while the shoulder buttons control which instrument you’re playing. Apparently, you’ll need to swap instruments in order to continue your multiplier score.

We’ll have more for you on Rock Band Unplugged as it becomes available.
