Okay, let’s talk a bit about how it works before we get into the nitty-gritty.

As you play Rocket League, you’ll unlock items as rewards for playing matches, anything from new wheels to antennae for your ride. These can be traded with other players for items that you want. Some items are rarer than others, and there’s a big market out there for trading.

You also get randomly given Champions Crates in the game, and inside them you’ll find a random item. The problem is you need keys to unlock them. You can buy them in bulk from the Rocket League marketplace, or individually, or trade some of your other items for keys.

Note: Developer Psyonix donates some of the cash made from microtransactions to the Rocket League eSports prize pools.

All items in Rocket League are for cosmetic purposes only, but if you’re an avid collector it’s very easy to get the urge to complete full sets of items, and collect as much as possible.

Rocket League price guide

First up, you’ll want to refer to a price guide. The most accurate price list we’ve discovered can be found right here. Though it’s been created by a member of the Steam community it’s also applicable to PS4 and Xbox Rocket League players.

Though it’s not 100% accurate, it gives you a good estimate of how much items are worth in terms of their key value, including crates, cars, decals and much more. Simply scroll down, find the item you want to trade and you’ll find out roughly how many keys it’s worth.

To be a successful trader, however, always make sure that the item you’re getting is worth a higher key value than the item that you’re giving away.

For example:

If you have a Black ARA-5, which is currently worth approximately 4-7 keys and you wish to trade it in, take a look at another player’s item that is worth more, perhaps a Crimson ARA-51, which is worth approximately 13 keys. Think of it as a virtual profit you’ve just made of around 5 keys on that one transaction.

Soon enough, you’ll be trading your way right up to the most highly-prized items.

It’s about ensuring you get the best deal, and making sure you’re getting an item back which is worth more than you’re giving away.

By using the price guide website, you’ll be equipped with the exact knowledge of how much your items are worth, making it less likely that you’ll get duped or short-changed in a trade.

Finding Rocket League players for trading

Next up you want to find players to trade with. Here’s a few good ways to find them:

  • There’s currently a Rocket League trading community on PS4 called: “Rocket League Trade Group.” Simply search for the community from your dashboard, and you’ll find plenty of players looking to make trades.
  • Register with Rocket League trading sites, such as https://rocket-league.com/. Alongside other useful information about the game, you can use a variety of filters to find players that have certain items, including Champions Crates, bodies, wheels, rocket trails and decals, which can be equipped in your garage. It shows you a list of PSN IDs of the people looking to trade. It’s then simply a case of adding them as friend on the PlayStation Network, and meeting them in-game to trade items.

  • Ask in-game. Use the text chat while playing to ask if anyone wants to trade, and join them in a party once the game has completed.

How to trade items

To trade with a player:

  • Go the lobby on PS4
  • Press L2 to create a party
  • Invite the player
  • Click on his name at the bottom of the screen and click “Invite to trade”

And that’s all there is to it! Using these two sites in tandem with each other will allow you to get the best deals for your Rocket League items.
