Grand Theft Auto VI Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain News PS5 Rockstar Rockstar Staff Firings

Rockstar Issues Statement On Recent Staff Firings, Confirming They Were Let Go Due To Leaking Confidential Info

Grand Theft Auto VI studio Rockstar has issued a statement to Bloomberg in regards to the recent termination of 30-40 employees in the UK and Canada, stating they were fired due to leaking confidential information on a public forum and not for their attempt to unionise.

Last week, we took action against a small number of individuals who were found to be distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum, a violation of our company policies. This was in no way related to people’s right to join a union or engage in union activities.

The employees who were let go from Rockstar took part in a private union chat on Discord, with the only people involved in the chat outside of Rockstar being labor organisers.

In response, Alex Marshall, the President of the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain, commented that “Rockstar were afraid of hard-working staff privately discussing exercising their rights for a fairer workplace and a collective voice. Management are showing they don’t care about delays to GTA VI, and that they’re prioritizing union-busting by targeting the very people who make the game.”

Rockstar Games is currently busy working on GTA VI for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, which is slated to arrive in May 2026.
