An anonymous staff member at Romero Games has claimed that the studio has now been shuttered following last week’s news that the company had its funding cut for its in-development first-person shooter project.
Last week, it was revealed that Bethesda had apparently pulled funding for a number of projects across various studios, Romero Games among them. Following this, a number of employees took to LinkedIn to confirm they had lost their jobs at the developer.

However, speaking with The Journal, one staff member has now confirmed that Romero Games has closed its doors completely.
Everyone is out of a job. We had meetings with the publisher the day before this happened, there was no mention of it… It seemed so far away for us. The title was pretty well developed at the time. We’re trying to find other ways of funding the project. But for now, it’s completely closed, and the studio is closed.
Last week Microsoft announced that it was cutting a number of jobs that could affect up to 4% of its entire workforce, and it later emerged that the studio had decided to cancel various projects including Everwild and the Perfect Dark reboot.
