Square Enix is remaking Final Fantasy VII for the PlayStation 4, according to a source close to Siliconera.
The critically acclaimed RPG, which was demoed ten years ago on PlayStation 3 hardware during Sony’s E3 2005 press conference, will apparently be remade in a similar style to Advent Children and Dissidia: Final Fantasy.
Furthermore, the source claims that the remake will be made to coincide with Final Fantasy VII’s 20th anniversary in 2017.
Just so we’re clear, this is a full remake and not related to the Final Fantasy VII port for PS4 that Square Enix announced last year.
Rumors of a FFVII remake have been doing the rounds for years now, although Square Enix has never officially confirmed that it’s working on it. A few years ago, the company said it is prioritising new content over a potential remake of the PlayStation One RPG.
