DICE is working on a new Battlefield title and is currently in the pre-production stage, according to insider Tom Henderson.
Citing an inside source, the development team behind Battlefield 2042 have reportedly earned “valuable lessons” from the game, which is reportedly being described “as a miss” internally. “I think we’ll be reverting a lot of the changes we made in Battlefield 2042,” the source said.
Henderson speculates that the comment could pertain to the 128 player count and the specialists featured in Battlefield 2042, which players have not responded warmly towards. In addition, a former DICE developer has said that the next instalment in the franchise was nearly going to be a “hero shooter,” with mercenaries in place of specialists.
However, these plans are believed to have changed, with feedback and playtest sessions focusing on Battlefield 2042’s class system.
While further details regarding the new Battlefield game are under wraps, it is believed it will adopt a modern/near-futuristic setting. Before that however, DICE is still lined up to release four specialists and four battle passes for Battlefield 2042, with the Exposure map also on the pipeline.
Battlefield 2042 was released for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One in November 2021.
