PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will be receiving 4K capabilities at some point in 2015, according to the Huffington Post.
While it has been anticipated that both Sony and Microsoft’s latest home consoles will offer 4K gaming at some point, this hardware revision allegedly pertains to 4K movies, not video games.
The report cites comments from Netflix’s John Hunt, who said that Sony ‘promised’ a new iteration of the PS4 that will support 4K video support, with it also eventually adding HDR capability.
According to a contributor at Forbes however, Netflix has since distanced itself from the news, although Hunt himself ‘believes that when both the PS4 and Xbox One consoles do their traditional two-year hardware refresh they will add the necessary components to deliver 4K video playback’.
Obviously there’s been no official word from Sony on the matter, although on the subject of hardware revisions, it’s commonplace for PlayStation hardware to receive a slimmer makeover after the original version has been on the market for 2-3 years.
