Rumor: PSP2 announcement due this month

According to the chaps at VG247, Sony is planning on hosting a “business overview and strategy meeting” in Tokyo on January 27, where it is believed the console maker will finally lift the cloth on PSP2.

Details are sketchy at best, but the website notes that the event is limiting attendance to “very select press” only. However, if sources are to be believed, Sony will officially unveil the successor to PSP at the bash.

Rumors have been rife on PSP2 for the past few months, with recent rumblings pointing to a late 2011 release for the portable device. Furthermore, numerous devs have commented on the existence of the machine, with EA and NetherRealm letting slip last year that they’ve had access to the handheld.

Obviously nothing has been confirmed as of yet, so treat this with a pinch of salt until we hear otherwise. Stay tuned.
