A user on NeoGAF has posted what is reportedly the in-game map for Rockstar’s as-yet unannounced Red Dead Redemption 2.
In addition, TechRadar’s independent sources have confirmed that the map is indeed authentic, and represents a location slightly East of what appeared in the original Red Dead Redemption. Not only that, but the game itself is believed to be a prequel to the 2010 Wild West outing.
A few interesting points to consider on the map include New Bordeaux, which is the fictional setting of the upcoming Mafia III—coincidentally, another property of Rockstar parent, Take-Two. There’s also plenty of Islands punctuating the landscape, accompanied by large bodies of water. Could we finally get to swim in a Red Dead game?
Check out the map below.
Red Dead Redemption was released for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in May 2010, receiving critical acclaim and going on to ship an impressive 14 million copies worldwide. The game spawned the zombie-themed Undead Nightmare expansion, a host of multiplayer DLC, plus a Game of the Year Edition.
A sequel to the game has been rumored for some time now, although Rockstar has never officially confirmed its development. More recently, the game appeared on the CV of an ex-developer, and we know that Take-Two will be at E3 in a ‘big way,’ suggesting an announcement is imminent.
