Trusted industry tipster AestheticGamer has claimed that Resident Evil 8 is still years off in wake of rumors suggesting the game will be announced during Sony’s PlayStation 5 reveal event.
Resident Evil 8 Isn’t Out For Ages Yet – Rumor
Writing on Twitter, he shared a bunch of interesting details about the next chapter in Capcom’s multi-million selling survival horror franchise, stating that the game was actually in the works as far back as late 2016.
However, Capcom put that version of the game on hold as it worked on the DLC for Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and ramped up production the then-in development Resident Evil 2 Remake.
Most interesting is mention of a new Resident Evil game likely coming out in 2021, and it’s not a remake or Resident Evil 8. Could it be Resident Evil Revelations 3? A new Resident Evil Outbreak? We can only speculate at this point.
Here’s what AestheticGamer had to say:
There was a version of RE8 that was in development since late 2016, though it went on pause during 2017 due to needing more hands on for RE7’s DLC and RE2 (which was behind schedule at the time). Still, there was an RE8 version that was in the works for a few years.
However, it actually got officially scrapped and the project rebooted only like 6-7 months ago, so the “final” RE8 version hasn’t even been in development for a full year yet. Now these reboots often go faster because some assets and such are carried over, but don’t expect RE8 anytime soon.
There is another Resident Evil game which will probably release next year, but it’s not a remake nor RE8. And that’s all I’m gonna’ say, now don’t bother me about RE for a while please.
The next instalment in the Resident Evil series is a full-blown RE Engine revamp of Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, which is out for PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One on April 3.
