Rumour: PlayStation 4 Dual Camera details leak

VGLeaks.com claims to have information relating to a new camera for PlayStation 4 dubbed the “Dual Camera.”

The site claims that the camera is an evolution of the EyeToy with a resolution of 720p and a wide angle lens. They claim it can be used for video chat and face recognition, giving users an added layer of security for logging onto their console (yawn), and can track hand and head movements.

It makes perfect sense that Sony would work on revolutionising the existing PS3 camera for its next-gen console. PlayStation Eye has been poorly utilised by developers but Sony will most definitely want to continue to push PlayStation Move, or its successor, further during the PS4 life-cycle so the camera needs to be up to scratch. And users will expect social features such as video chat to be available out of the box.

VGLeaks also suggests that the PS3 Dual Camera may even come bundled with all PlayStation 4 consoles at launch. Sony is rumoured to reveal its next-gen console at an event in New York City on February 20, 2013. Wonder if we’ll hear more then?
