Fresh reports claiming that Sony is shifting away from releasing its single-player PlayStation exclusive for the PC have emerged on Bloomberg, which claims the format holder scrapped plans to release Ghost of Yotei on PC.
The report states that Marathon and Marvel Tokon Fighting Souls are still coming to multiple platforms, but Ghost of Yotei and Saros will remain exclusive to the PS5, according to those familiar with Sony’s plans. While they noted that these plans could change given the nature of the games industry, Sony reportedly scrapped plans to bring Ghost of Yotei to PC and “other internally developed games” to that platform.
Bloomberg speculates that the reason for Sony’s decision to move away from PC releases is due to the fact a number of recent titles sold poorly on PC. It has also been suggested by ‘people familiar with Sony’s inner workings ‘ that bringing exclusive titles to the PC would risk damaging the console’s brand, thus impacting sales of the PS5 and beyond.
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about Sony’s alleged plans to reduce its output on PC. Jason Schreier said only last week that Sony was backing away from releasing its single-player exclusives for the PC, stating during an appearance on the Triple Click podcast that only live service products will still be released on personal computers. He also stated that Marvel’s Wolverine has no PC version in sight at the moment.
In addition, Jez Cordon said on the Xbox Two Podcast in November last year that he had heard from his own source that Sony was planning on reducing its PC releases in regards to major single-player titles.
Sony has yet to comment on its plans for future PC releases.
