The masses have been clamoring to find out if the 80GB backward compatibility would be available for their favorite titles or even work at all. Today PlayStation.com launched a compatibility checker for their new 80GB SPU.
PSU decided to look at some favorites and see what issues have come during their internal checks. Just a quick run through gives us:
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater:
"Description: Throughout gameplay, the title performs at a significantly slower than normal performance speed."
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas:
"Description: No major problems for this title."
Final Fantasy 7:
"Description: On Disc 1, when the first battle begins at the Mako Reactor, a flashing black square appears around the user’s character’s pointer."
God of War II:
"Description: No major problems for this title."
Well, PSU went two for four on 100% compatible games and we hope that your favorites make the grade. It’s good to see the detail and commentary of the list, but kind of nerve racking the problems facing some of our favorites. Take a look here to see if your library will keep up to your expectations.
Stay tuned to PSU for more information on the 80GB SPU’s BC and future updates that will hopefully fix some of the problems.
