Secret of Mana Remake confirmed

Square Enix has announced that the much-loved RPG Secret of Mana is being fully remastered in 3D for PlayStation 4, PC, and PlayStation Vita early next year.

Fully overhauled from the ground-up for modern hardware, the Secret of Mana remaster will feature a brand new visual style, full voice acting, new dialogue scenes, and a revamped soundtrack. The gameplay is also said to have been upgraded, although no details are available at the time of writing.

Pleasingly, the multiplayer aspect of the original game will be making a return, with Secret of Mana 3D supporting three-player local cooperative play.

The original Secret of Mana, known in Japan as Seiken Densetsu 2, was released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, and is the follow-up to Mystic Quest/Final Fantasy Adventure.

Secret of Mana was critically acclaimed upon its release, and would go on to become one of the most beloved role-playing games of all time. The game contributed to the popularity of the genre in western territories, and sold over 1.83 million copies worldwide by February 2004.
