A ‘surprise announcement’ pertaining to the Yakuza franchise will be made next weekend, SEGA has teased.
Reports from Japan (via Gematsu) state that the announcement will drop on August 18, after 5.00 p.m. Tokyo Time.
Whatever SEGA has in the pipeline remains unknown, but it coincides with an event in which the Japanese publisher will unveil the results of a character poll.
Yakuza has remained a PlayStation-exclusive from its inception in 2005 up to and including Yakuza 5, which was released in The Land of the Rising Sun last December. In a surprise move however, SEGA announced it will be bringing the original game and its sequel to Wii U later this year with high-definition visuals.
Fans have pushed hard to see the franchise released in the U.S. and Europe, and their efforts paid off: only the prequel chapter Yakuza: Kenzan! remains a Japanese-exclusive, with every other game including the spin-off Yakuza: Dead Souls making its way to western territories.
