SEGA has announced that it will be bringing an all-new Real Time Strategy (RTS) title, Stormrise, to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 platforms at some point next year.
Developed by The Creative Assembly, previously responsible for the critically acclaimed Total War series, Stormrise centres on the continuous struggle between two factions – the Echelon and the Sai –as the pair battle it out for supremacy on the bleak wastelands of a devastated planet earth.
Both teams differ fundamentally in style; the Echelon is a race of technologically superior warriors who survive via self-induced hibernations, while the Sai take the form of a tribal faction with the ability to adapt to their surroundings.
SEGA’s European Marketing Director, Gary Knight, commented: "The Creative Assembly have proven their general leadership in developing RTS games through the award winning ‘Total War’ series on PC.”
"However, Stormrise has been built from the ground up specifically for high def consoles to provide a more intense, frenetic style of game that, coupled with the all new control mechanic, will revolutionise the way RTS games are played."
The game features a host of controllable units able to traverse on the surface, air and underground, with gamers commanding their troops on the front lines, as opposed to the more traditional detached perspective seen in the majority of RTS titles.
Stormrise is scheduled to ship for PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2009.
