Shenmue 3 creator says Ryo’s character model will be improved

The creator behind the Shenmue III has said that he’s not too keen on Ryo Hazuki’s facial design at this point in the game’s development.

Speaking during the latest issue of GamesTM (via ibTimes), Suzuki-san again reiterated his surprise at the reaction to Shenmue III’s successful Kickstarter campaign, which was announced during Sony’s E3 2015 presser.

"It was completely unexpected and a big surprise. I become acutely aware of how the fans felt towards Shenmue having waited in anticipation these 14 years," said the Hang-On creator. "We are currently in the early development stage, but I am not satisfied with the look of Ryo’s face. Improvements will be made as we go along."

Elsewhere, Suzuki-san said that the original concept of Shenmue’s story hasn’t been trimmed in for the hotly anticipated third instalment.

"The initial storyline contains 11 chapters. I thought about condensing the story in three, but I thought that would necessitate cutting too much story, so I decided not to go that route. Many fans really want to see the whole story."

Shenmue III is currently in the early stages of development, having recently raised $6.3 million on Kickstarter and becoming the fastest video game project on the crowdfunding initiative to reach the $1 million mark.
