Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is being rebuilt from the ground up for PS5, PS4, PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One, Frogwares has announced.
The project is also billed as a ‘substantial rewrite’ of the original 2006 release, and in order to secure the final production funds, there will also be a Kickstarter campaign for the game.
In terms of what’s new, Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened will boast all new graphics and assets build in the Unreal Engine 4, overhauled animations and cutscenes, while the investigation gameplay mechanics have been fleshed out. Meanwhile, the story behind Watson and Holmes’ close relationship has also been amplified, while minor story rewrites to cases have also been implemented.
Frogwares also revealed that there will be additional side quests to tackle, and new English voiceovers have been recorded and translated into multiple languages. Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened will also boast extra quality of life features, changes to the third-person camera, and enhanced user interface.

Frogwares’ Feature Designers Team Lead, Jaroslav Martyniuk, commented:
No assets or code are being repurposed from the original game. We are essentially rebuilding the entire game from scratch to run Unreal Engine 4, using all new assets or ones we can cleverly rework from Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One which came out only a few months ago.
We’re also adding entirely new gameplay mechanics while reworking the original ones to expand the ways players will be solving the cases. The changes to the story and timeline mean entirely new voice acting will be recorded.
We’re also reworking the camera to feel like modern third-person perspective games, remaking all of the UI, animations, cutscenes. The list goes on. It’s essentially an entirely new game with only the underlying story in the cases staying more or less intact.
Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened is currently in development for PS5, PS4, PC, Switch, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.
