Stellar Blade: Blood Rain developer Shift Up has caught a lot of flak recently over the release of a music video for the upcoming sequel, which fans have accused of being nothing more than ‘AI slop.’
In response, studio boss Hyung-Tae Kim clarified that Evie, the main character, was designed by real artists across an entire year.
EVIE, the character at the heart of this video, was created from head to toe by our talented artists and modelers through more than a year of dedicated work. The AI is not creating her from scratch. It is rendering and presenting the character based on the data, designs, and craftsmanship our team created. We would truly appreciate it if you could view the work with that understanding in mind.
In case you weren’t aware of it, the video in question is titled Wanna Be In Live, and can be seen here. Its use of AI attracted a lot of criticism, and while Kim has cleared things up a bit, it doesn’t change the fact that – as the Shift Up boss admits above – the video still employs the use of AI to render Evie’s movements.
Stellar Blade: Blood Rain was announced during Summer Game Fest and takes place in a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi urban environments and appears to be based on Chongquing, China. No release date has been announced yet, but the game is reportedly still in the early stages of development.
