Shinji Mikami praises PS4, says he can ‘create something more realistic’

Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami has said that the PlayStation 4 has allowed him to create a more realistic horror-based video game.

Speaking during an interview with OPM UK, Mikami-san, who is directing the upcoming Bethesda-backed survival horror romp, The Evil Within, said ample lighting is of paramount importance in horror games — something which is possible thanks to the power of PS4.

Asked how he is finding working with Sony’s next-generation console for the first time, the father of survival horror replied:

“So because the resolution’s higher, it’s more realistic. I can actually create something that’s more realistic. In the horror genre, [it’s about] the lighting. More lights in a level means there’s more variety in the situations, so that’s very good.”

The Evil Within is scheduled for release on PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in October. We went hands-on with Mikami-san’s latest project back in May, and came away quite impressed.
